For this tee I used Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend. It is the perfect summer yarn. It’s so breathable, light & durable. But any DK weight yarn would work just fine for this top.

Pattern notes
Stitches & Abbreviations – US terms
ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
hdc blo – half double crochet back loop only
hdc flo – half double crochet front loop only
hdc2tog – half double crochet 2 together (hdc decrease)
hdc3tog – half double crochet 3 together

· ch 2 does not count as hdc

· The pattern is made as two panels: the front and back. They are then sewn together. The sleeves are joined and added in joined, turned rounds.

· To create the same color block striping pattern, change colors every 10 rows.

· I did not fasten off after each color. If you have an even number of rows for each stripe, the yarn can be carried up.

Gauge: 15 stitches alternating hdc blo & hdc flo x 11 rows = 4” x 4”

Sizes:
S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X – The pattern is written in these sizes consecutively. Example, when the pattern gives the end of the row count as (68, 76, 84, 92, 100, 108 hdc), the 68 is for S, 76 is M, 84  is L, 92 is XL, 100 is 2X, 108 is 3X.

This tee is a close fitting with zero to negative ease.

Weave in other ends.

SEWING

Lay the front panel on top of the back. Wrong side out. (there isn’t really a right and wrong side, just whichever you like best)

Use the long ends to sew the shoulders closed with a whip stitch. (use stitch markers to line it up)

Use the long ends to sew the sides closed with a whip stitch (use stitch markers to line it up) Leave a 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5” (or your desired armhole size) space at the top for armholes.

Weave in all the ends.

Turn right side out.

SLEEVES

Join yarn to the bottom of an armhole.

You’ll be working evenly around the armhole, working into the side of the stitches. I alternated 1 sc in 1 hdc, then 2 sc in the next hdc.

Round 1: ch 1, sc evenly around the armhole, join to first stitch with sl st

Round 2: ch 2, turn, hdc blo in first stitch, *hdc flo in next, hdc blo in next* repeat from * to * around to last 3 stitches, hdc3tog, join to first stitch with sl st

Round 3: ch 2, turn, hdc blo in first stitch, hdc flo in next, *hdc blo in next, hdc flo in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first hdc with sl st

Repeat round 3 to Round 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 (or until desired sleeve length)

Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

Repeat for other sleeve.

  1. I bought your new pattern “My Favorite Tee” yesterday. I am reading through the pattern before I go purchase the yarn and I am slightly confused about the quantities of yarn to purchase. The pattern says:

    Materials
Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend (2 skeins for S, 3 skeins for M/L/XL, 4 skeins for 2X/3X) – I used the colors Whipped Cream and Chai Latte

Does this mean that, if I am making size Small, I will buy one ball of Whipped Cream and one ball of Chai Latte for a total of two balls or I will buy two balls of Whipped Cream and two balls of Chai Latte for a total of four balls?

    Thank You

  2. The material requirements say: 3 skeins for sizes M/L/XL. So I need 1 of one color and 2 of the other? Which color uses the most yarn? I assume I would need 2 skeins of whichever color uses the most. I cannot tell by looking at the picture. Thanks.

  3. Thanks so much for posting this pattern, can’t wait to make it. I love the way you have written the pattern and provide pictures, much appreciated?

    1. Can you please explain the rows of the neckline. I’m making a XL, do I hdc2tog at stich # 21 and what follows after this stitch? I’m confused as to the #s in parenthesis. Please walk me through completing the neckline.
      Thank you

      1. Hi! After the hdc2tog, stop the row. Ch 2 and turn. You will only work partway across to make the V neck. The numbers in parenthesis is the end of row count.

  4. I don’t know where you have been hiding because I have been looking for three years for this style of tee and am very happy I found this. I have now permanently tagged your site so I don’t lose it. Thank you for this and hopefully many more. Will send a picture when finished. Good luck and hope to see many more of your future projects.

  5. Hello! I’d been looking for a crochet V-neck top pattern which might lend well towards experimenting with different looks and styles. This could be sleeveless, long-sleeve, lengthened to wear over leggings or cinched with a belt, etc… I’m also thinking different weight yarns and hooks could be utilized as long as gauge / measurements are adhered to. Thanks! 🙂

  6. I’m loving the look so far. I am getting ready to start the sleeves but I’m confused by you statement right before row 1 instruction.

    1. When starting the sleeves you’ll be working along the side of the half double crochets at the end of each row (instead of the top loops). Work 1 sc in the side of one hdc, then work 2 hdc in the side of the next. Alternating around.

          1. I am working the pattern for the tee and I am confused by the start of the neck. Do you have a video of how the v neck is done?

          2. Hi! No, I don’t have a video. You’ll make one side of the V neck (working only across half the row) then rejoin to make the other side of the neckline. Hope that helps!

  7. I am making this sweater for my daughter and wanted some clarification on the instructions. When you say to crochet in front and back loops are you speaking of the top two loops or are you considering the third loop as front or back loop? Thank you.

      1. I found it difficult to know where to place stitches for the first round of the sleeve, and therefore not sure if I created too many sc stitches. Even with the decrease of 3 per the pattern, the sleeve does not fit snuggly on my arm and I don’t have skinny arms. Breann can you provide a close estimate of the number of stitches in round 1 of the sleeve? (I made the rest of the shirt based on size Medium, with about 6.5″ opening as suggested.)

  8. I don’t find the gauge. I have plenty of cotton yarn in my stash and would like to know if I can use it for this patter.
    Thank you!

  9. Thank you so much for thus pattern!! it was easy to follow and easy to add my own little touches!! thank you!!!!

  10. Hello,
When making the different sizes of this pattern I’m confused . So I’m making the large, you said to crochet 10 rows of each color to keep color block even but the row count doesn’t match. When I do the back panel 10 rows each color gives me 60 rows not the 68 that you indicate?? Hoping I don’t have to frog it.
    Thanks

  11. Hi. Did you happen to make a video for this? I love following along with you. I’ve already made two other sweaters. You are amazing!!
