Choosing Your Yarn

For this top I used Paintbox Cotton DK. This is a fantastic choice for summer crochet tops. It’s a soft, breathable yarn that feels great against the skin, making it perfect for warm-weather wear. One of the best features of Paintbox Cotton DK is its wide range of vibrant and pastel colors—there’s truly something for every style. Plus, the small 50g skeins make it easy and affordable to mix and match shades, which is perfect for creating fun stripes or color block designs without committing to large amounts of each color. Any DK weight cotton (or acrylic) would work for the Macaron Cami.

Getting To Know the Stitches

This top uses just one basic stitch: half double crochet (hdc). The half double crochet stitch is a great choice for crochet tops because it strikes the perfect balance between drape and structure. It’s a simple, beginner-friendly stitch, but it adds a beautiful, subtle texture that gives your project more visual interest than plain double or single crochet. The slight ridging from the yarn overs creates a soft, almost woven look that works especially well for garments. It also builds up quickly, making it ideal for lightweight tops that you’ll want to wear all season long.

  1. Hiya! Love your designs❤️
I do have trouble with the starting foundation chains ?
Any word of advice? Or handy hints?
Is it maybe I’ve always just chained EVERYTHING??
BTW like the CAL for a cause idea we’re getting in our mailboxes?

  2. I’m having a hard time with medium size row 21. The way it works out I’m doing the hdctog at the top’s bottom. What am I doing wrong?

Beautiful top, I’m just a little confused.

    1. Yes, you’re right. I’m sorry about that!! I’ll fix it now. You can continue with the pattern but switch where the decreases are, if that makes sense

  3. I love this pattern but am so confused!
It says repeat row 2 to 6,7,8,9,10,11
    Row 7, 8,9,1o,11,12. Etc.
I’m not understanding at all. I’m sorry, can you help?

    1. Hi! Each number refers to a different size. They are in order for sizes S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X. What size are you making?

      1. Is not refers to sizes, you wrote
        “Repeat row 2 to Row 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11” (where is row 3, 4 and 5?)
and below you repeat the rows but with different execution
“Row 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12: ch 2, turn, hdc in each stitch to the last, 3 hdc in the last stitch”
and below again “Row 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13: ch 2, turn, 3 hdc in first stitch, hdc in each stitch across”

Plus you skip rows 14 and 15

        is really really confusing =/

        1. Hi! It does refer to size. Row 3, 4, & 5 are a repeat of row 2.
What size are you making? I will be able to tell you exactly which row to repeat to.

          When it says
          Repeat row 2 to Row 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 — each number is a different size. So the 6 is size S, the 7 is M, 8, is L, 9 is XL, 10 is 2X, 11 is 3X

        2. I believe it means for size small, continue CROcheting with same stitch and color (Row 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) or some prefer (continue rows 3-6) up until through row 6.

  4. Hi Breann,

Could you share the names of the shades from your Feb 12, 2020 Paintbox DK yarn giveaway? That palette is very striking and I would love to make the Macaron cami in those shades, but can’t quite identify them from the Paintbox website for sure since they have so many gradients of colors.

    1. Hi! I’m really not sure. I just posted what they sent me. I’ll take a closer look at their website and see if I can figure it out!

      1. These are my guesses… Ballet Pink, Blush Pink, Raspberry Pink (?), Duck Egg Blue, Dolphin Blue
