EVERGREEN BEANIE CROCHET PATTERN

ch 2

Row 1: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook foundation sc 70 (length is approx 21”), join to first sc with sl st (70 sc)

To change the circumference, add or take out foundation single crochets. The total number of single crochets needs to be a multiple of 2.

Round 2: ch 1, sc in each stitch around, join to first sc with sl st (70 sc)

Round 3: ch 2, dc in each stitch around, join to first dc with sl st (70 dc)

Round 4: ch 2, *fpdc, bpdc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first fpdc with sl st (70)

Round 5: ch 2, *bpdc, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first bpdc with sl st (70)

Round 6 – 17: repeat rounds 4 & 5

Decreasing starts in the next rounds. Hat is approx 6” long at this point. To make it longer continue repeating rounds 4 & 5.

(note: if the starting number of stitches was changed, the decrease rounds might not work out exact. That’s ok. Do the pattern repeat until the end of the round.)

Round 18: ch 2, *(fpdc, bpdc in next) twice, fpdc3tog, (bpdc, fpdc in next) twice, bpdc3tog* repeat from * to * around, join to first fpdc with sl st (50)

Round 19: ch 2, bpdc in first stitch, fpdc in next, *bpdc, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first bpdc with sl st (50)

Round 20: ch 2, *fpdc, bpdc in next, fpdc3tog, bpdc, fpdc in next, bpdc3tog* repeat from * to * around, join to first fpdc with sl st (30)

Round 21: ch 2, bpdc in first stitch, fpdc in next, *bpdc, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first bpdc with sl st (30)

Round 22: ch 2, *fpdc3tog, bpdc3tog* repeat from * to * around, join to first fpdc with sl st (10)

Round 23: ch 2, bpdc in first stitch, fpdc in next, *bpdc, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first bpdc with sl st (10)

Fasten off.

Leave a long end for sewing.

Use a yarn needle to weave the long end in and out of the top of the stitches in the last round.

Cinch the top closed.

(HERE is a photo tutorial showing how I sew the top of a beanie)

Use the beginning end to sew the small space left from joining round 1 closed.

Weave in all the ends.
