Yarn

This vest is made with I Love This Cotton!, a soft and durable worsted weight cotton yarn that’s perfect for summer garments. Cotton helps keep the vest breathable while still giving it enough structure to hold the beautiful stitch pattern.

Stitch Pattern

The star of this design is the X stitch, which creates a subtle crisscross texture that adds visual interest without being complicated. Combined with chains and double crochets, the fabric becomes open and airy while still feeling sturdy.

The stitch repeat is simple and relaxing, making this a great project for crocheting while watching TV or listening to a podcast.

FAQ

Any worsted weight cotton yarn will work well for this pattern. Cotton blends can also be used if you prefer a slightly softer drape.

You can, but cotton is recommended for warm-weather garments because it is more breathable and comfortable in the heat.

Nope! The vest is made all in one piece, so there’s no sewing required.

    1. Good day.
This is a great pattern. Thank you for your effort in creating and sharing.
      I’m a little confused with row 1.
      I’m making the s/m.
I make a foundation chain of 68, then go into the forth chain from chain and do dc.
But how do I end up with 66 stitches from 68 after going into forth chain with d/c?.
I would not be left with 66 st.
      Wouldn’t I be left with 64 st?

      Thank you in advance.

  4. Hi Breann. What weight yarn did you use? And could you use a cotton blend? Thank you for such a lovely pattern. — Larryn

  5. Hi I’m going to do this vest & when I start just clarifying cuz I’m new at reading patterns so I chain 68 cuz I’m doing the Sm/Med then I add 3 more stitches THEN I DC in the 4th stitch from the hook? Just to clarify… thank u so much ! This vest looks so simple but elegant & looks like it works up quick which I love!

  6. Love it but there seems to be a mistake on the L/XL pattern. Should be 5 rows of the X stictch. Row 12-15 should be 12-16. But I did the same at the end and it all looks good

  7. I’d love to make this but only have DK cotton available to me. Any suggestions on how to make the vest with DK instead?

    1. If I’m not mistaken if you use 2 strands of DK it’s equivalent to worsted weight.

How many meters did you use as that yarn is not available here?

  8. I would really like to make this for a good friend, but she needs 3x. Can you tell me how to enlarge the pattern ? Thanks. btw, I love your patterns !

  14. Hi Breann, thanks for the pattern.

I am trying to make it now, but I am a bit confused on the neck part.
The Ch 1, sc across the top and around the entire piece, with 3 sc in each corner is all around the rectangle right?
The join to top of first sc, ch 3, dc across the top it is just the part above the shoulders that will be the neck of the vest right and it is just the 1 row?

Your help would be very much appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Maria.
