sc blo – single crochet back loop only
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
bpdc – back post double crochet
fpdc2tog – front post double crochet 2 together or front post double crochet decrease

· This beanie is worked from the bottom up starting with the ribbing

Approx Finished Size (small adult):
Circumference: 19”
Length: 8”

VERTIGO BEANIE CROCHET PATTERN

ch 9

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from the hook and across (8 sc)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in first stitch, sc blo in next 6, sc in last (8)

Repeat row 2 to Row 78 (8)

Do not fasten off

Ribbing should be approx. 19”. To adjust add or take out rows. The number of rows must be a multiple of 6

Bring both ends together. Sew the ends together with sc

Now you will be working around the top of the ribbing in rounds

Round 1: ch 1, sc evenly around working 1 sc in the end of each row, join to first sc with sl st (78 sc)

Round 2: ch 2, dc in each stitch around,join to first sc with sl st (78 dc)

Round 3: ch 2, *bpdc in 5 stitches, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first bpdc with sl st (78)

Round 4: ch 2, fpdc in first stitch, *bpdc in 5 stitches, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around ending with 5 bpdc, join to first fpdc with sl st (78)

Round 5: ch 2, bpdc in first stitch, fpdc in next, *bpdc in 5 stitches, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around ending with 4 bpdc, join to first bpdc with sl st (78)

Round 6: ch 2, bpdc in first 2 stitches, fpdc in next, *bpdc in 5 stitches, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around ending with 3 bpdc, join to first bpdc with sl st (78)

Round 7: ch 2, bpdc in first 3 stitches, fpdc in next, *bpdc in 5 stitches, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around ending with 2 bpdc, join to first bpdc with sl st (78)

Round 8: ch 2, bpdc in first 4 stitches, fpdc in next, *bpdc in 5 stitches, fpdc in next* repeat from * to * around ending with 1 bpdc, join to first bpdc with sl st (78)

Repeat round 3 – 8 to Round 17 (78)

In the next rounds the beanie will start to decrease

Round 18: ch 2, bpdc in first stitch, fpdc2tog, *bpdc in 4 stitches, fpdc2tog* repeat from * to * around ending with 3 bpdc, join to first bpdc (65)

In the next rounds the fpdc2tog will work into the fpdc2tog from the previous round and 1 bpdc. Be sure to insert your hook around the entire fpdc2tog from the previous round.

Round 19: ch 2, bpdc in first stitch, fptog2tog, *bpdc in 3 stitches, fpdc2tog* repeat from * to * around ending with 2 bpdc, join to first bpdc with sl st (52)

Round 20: ch 2, bpdc in first stitch, fpdc2tog, *bpdc in 2 stitches, fpdc2tog* repeat from * to * around ending with 1 bpdc, join to first bpdc with sl st (39)

Round 21: ch 2, *bpdc , fpdc2tog* repeat from * to * around, join to first bpdc with sl st (26)

Round 22: ch 2, fpdc2tog around, join to first fpdc with sl st (13)

Fasten off. Leave a long end for sewing.

Use your yarn needle to weave the long end in and out of the top loops of the last round. Pull tight to cinch closed. Sew the top closed.

Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

  1. Hello! I’m doing CAL 2020 and this week was a simple hat. I have some time on my hands and I want to make this vertigo beanie. What I’d like to know is how much yarn it takes. I do not see this information anywhere. I did read that you used yarn you dyed yourself and might not have an exact answer to the amount. In that case, an guesstimate would help too. Thank you.

    1. When I made this, I used 2 skeins of Caron simply lucky soft, together as one strand of yarn. That was sufficient for an adult sized hat
