Little Owl Beanie Crochet Pattern

The Little Owl Beanie Crochet Pattern is an easy, basic beanie pattern. Just add a few simple embellishments and you have something adorable!

This hat is the 2nd pattern in the Crochet Along for a Cause. We are making 1 hat per week to donate to a cancer center, school, or homeless shelter for 12 weeks. There’s always time to join! You can find all the details and hat patterns HERE.

Materials
50g worsted weight yarn (I used I Love this Yarn in Coffee & Tropical Pink)
Small amount of white, black, blue and gold/yellow worsted weight yarn
H/5.0 mm hook
yarn needle
scissors
stitch markers

dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet

· ch 2 does not count as dc or hdc

· ch 1 does not count as sc

Approx Finished size (6-12mo) –
Length: 6”
Circumference: 16”

LITTLE OWL BEANIE CROCHET PATTERN

BEANIE

With Color A, Make a magic ring

Round 1: ch 2, 10 dc in ring, join to first dc with sl st, pull ring closed tight (10 dc)

Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch around, join to first dc with sl st (20 dc)

Round 3: ch 2, *dc in 1 stitch, 2 dc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first dc with sl st (30 dc)

Round 4: ch 2, *dc in 2 stitches, 2 dc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first dc with sl st (40 dc)

Round 5: ch 2, *dc in 3 stitches, 2 dc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to the first dc with sl st (50 dc)

Crown diameter is approx. 5.5”. To change the size, add or take out an increase round.

Round 6 – 8: ch 2, dc in each stitch around, join to first dc with sl st (50 dc)

Change to Color B

Round 9 – 12: ch 2, dc in each stitch around, join to first dc with sl st (50 dc)

Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

BEAK

With gold/yellow ch 6

Row 1: sl st in 2nd ch from the hook, sc, hdc, dc, tr

Fasten off. Leave a long end for sewing.

EYES

With black, make a magic ring

Round 1: ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join to first sc with sl st, pull ring closed tight (6 sc)

Change to blue

Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each stitch around, join to first sc with sl st (12 sc)

Change to white

Round 3: ch 2, *hdc in 1 stitch, 2 hdc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first hdc with sl st (18 dc)

Fasten off. Leave a long end for sewing.

SEWING

Place the beak right where the color changes on the beanie and secure with stitch markers. Use the long end to sew.

Place one eye slightly overlapping the corner of the beak. Secure with stitch markers. Use the long end to sew.

Place the second eye on the other side of the beak, slightly overlapping the corner. Secure with stitch markers. Use long end to sew.

Weave in all the ends.

FRINGE

Cut 4 strands of yarn (2 of each color) a few inches each

Turn the beanie with the back facing up

Add the fringe to round 4 on each side.

Trim to your liking.
