Beach Day Swim Suit Cover Up CAL – Part 2: The Second Hexagon!

Welcome to Part 2 of the Beach Day Swim Suit Cover Up Crochet Along! If you’ve made your first granny hexagon—yay! You’ve officially taken the first step toward your breezy summer cover up.

This week, we’re keeping the momentum going by crocheting your second hexagon. You’ll use the same stitches and pattern as last week, so feel free to get comfy and confident with the flow. If you’re making a mommy and me set, now’s a great time to work up a matching hexie for both sizes!

Materials
Caron Cotton Cakes (2 cakes for 2/4 & 6/8, 3 for 10/12 & 14/16) (3 cakes for S/M, 4 for L/XL & 2X/3X, 5 for 4X/5X)
I/5.5 mm hook – or hook used to obtain gauge
Yarn needle
Scissors
stitch markers

Level
intermediate

Pattern notes & stitches to know
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
dc – double crochet

· written in US terms

· ch 2 counts as dc

· The hexagon will end up wavy. It will not lay flat.

Sizes:
(2/4, 6/8, 10/12, 14/16) (S/M, L/XL, 2X/3X, 4X/5X)- The pattern is written in these sizes consecutively.

Hexagon measured from center to edge: (6”, 7”, 8”, 9”) (10”, 12”, 14”, 16”)

ch 4

Round 1: ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, *3dc, ch 2* repeat from * to * 4 more times, join to first ch 2 with sl st (18 dc)

Round 2: sl st to ch-2, ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2space, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in each ch-2 space around, join to first ch 2 with sl st (36 dc)

Round 3: sl st to ch-2, ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 space, 3 dc in between 3 dc’s from previous round, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 space, 3 dc in between 3 dc’s from previous round* repeat from * to * around, join to first ch 2 with sl st (54 dc)

Round 4: sl st to ch-2, ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 space, 3 dc in between each 3 dc’s from previous round, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 space, 3 dc in between each 3 dc’s from previous round* repeat from * to * around, join to first ch 2 with sl st  (72 dc)

Round 5 – Round (13, 15, 17, 19) (21, 25, 29, 33): repeat round 4 – each round will increase by 18 stitches

Or until it matchers the first hexagon.

Fasten off. Leave a long end for sewing.
