Granny Stitch Poncho Crochet Pattern
If you’re looking for a cozy yet stylish layering piece, this Granny Stitch Poncho Crochet Pattern is the perfect project! It combines a snug ribbed cowl neck with classic granny stitch stripes for a modern take on a timeless favorite. Add in a delicate picot edging, and you’ve got a poncho that’s both comfortable and chic.
This poncho is worked in two main sections: first, the ribbed cowl worked in rows with half double crochet in the back loop only, and then the poncho portion, worked in rounds using the granny stitch. For a fun and bold look, I made mine with four color stripes, but you could go with a single color or mix and match your yarn stash for a scrappy version!

About the Pattern
✨ Skill Level: Easy/Confident Beginner
✨ Construction: The cowl is worked flat, sewn into a tube, then stitches are picked up around the bottom edge. The granny stitch portion is worked in the round to form the poncho shape.
✨ Details: The poncho is finished with a dainty picot edging for a polished look.
This design is cozy enough for lounging at home yet pretty enough to wear out—it’s basically like wrapping up in your favorite blanket but with style.

Materials
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in 3 colors
- Hook: Size H/5.0 mm (or size needed to meet gauge)
- Notions: Scissors, yarn needle, stitch markers

Why You’ll Love This Pattern
- Classic Meets Modern: The granny stitch is timeless, but the ribbed cowl and stripe design give this poncho a fresh feel.
- Customizable: Play with colors, adjust the length, or swap out the edging for your favorite finish.
- Layer-Friendly: Perfect over jeans and a tee or even over a dress for a little extra warmth.
The Finishing Touch
The picot edging is the sweetest detail—it frames the poncho beautifully and gives it just enough texture at the hem. If you want a more simple look, you can easily leave the picots off and stick with a single crochet border.
