Garnet Bead Keychain Crochet Pattern by Violet Loops (Guest Designer)

July 23, 2021

Hi, we are Jen and Jess and we are the creatives behind Violet Loops! We create modern crochet designs for our lives. These include home décor items, accessories, and baby items. At this point in our journey, we let life drive what items we design. Over the last few years, we have both welcomed Little Ones into our lives so last summer we released the Garnet Bead pacifier clip. But over the last year Jess wanted a keychain version of the clip, so we designed the Garnet Bead Keychain Crochet Pattern!

The Garnet Bead keychain is a part of our Jewel Collection. The collection contains two different designs: Garnet Bead and Diamond. The pattern contains directions for a keychain, pacifier clip, camera strap, and bookmark. The Garnet Bead keychain features the bead stitch, which is considered an advanced beginner stitch. But do not worry, photo and video tutorials are provided below!

All you need to make the keychain is about 20-25 yards of light worsted weight cotton yarn, a 3.5 mm crochet hook, and a keychain clip. We used Knit Picks Dishie but any other worsted weight cotton yarn will work as well. We like to use a soft cotton since it is washable and hold up as a keychain through wear and use. The keychain is designed to be about 5-5.5 inches long, folded, not counting the clip and 1-1.25 inches wide. Using a different cotton yarn could vary these measurements.

Row 1: Ch 49, sc in second ch from the hook, sc in each st across. (48)

Row 2: Ch 2, turn, dc in next st, *bead st, skip st, dc,* repeat * across the row. Note: This is the RS of the strap.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across the row. (48)

Without breaking yarn, block the strap, if needed.

Attaching the keychain clip:

Fold the strap so that the ends meet with the RS facing out. Slide the lobster clip on the strap and let it fall out of your way. Ch 1, sl st across the end of the strap. Pull out your hook and leave a tail for sewing.

Position the yarn clip along the inside of the sl sts. Using a yarn needle, sew along the first row sts, under the clip, to secure the clip in place.
