SHELL SHORTS CROCHET PATTERN

ch 2

Row 1: starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, work 120, 132, 144, 156, 168, 180, 192 foundation sc, join to first sc with sl st to make a circle (120, 132, 144, 156, 168, 180, 192  sc)

The rest of the pattern is worked in rounds.

Round 2: ch 1, *sc in 3 stitches, ch 1, skip 1 stitch* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (90, 99, 108, 117, 126, 135, 144 sc)

Round 3: ch 1, sc in each stitch and ch space around, join to first sc with sl st (120, 132, 144, 156, 168, 180, 192  sc)

Round 4: ch 1, sc in same stitch, skip 2 stitches, *5 dc in next stitch, skip 2 stitches, sc in next, skip 2 stitches* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 shells)

Round 5: ch 2, 5 dc in same stitch, sc in 3rd dc of next shell, *5 dc in next sc, sc in 3rd dc of next shell* repeat from * to * around, join to first dc with sl st (20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 shells)

Round 6: sl st to 3rd dc in shell, ch 1, sc in same stitch, 5 dc in next sc, *sc in 3rd dc of next shell, 5 dc in next sc* repeat from * to * around, join to first sc with sl st (20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 shells)

Repeat rounds 5 & 6 to Round 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38

The leg holes are made in the next round. You will not go around the entire circle. Instead stop halfway and join to first stitch in the round.

At this point you can try the shorts on and see if the length is good for starting the leg holes. Add or take out rounds as needed.

Round 27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39: repeat round 5 until there are 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 shells and sc, join to first dc with sl st (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 shells)

In the next rounds, continue to work on just this side.

Round 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40: repeat round 6 (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 shells)

Round 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39, 41: repeat round 5 (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 shells)

Continue shell repeat for 1 more round for M & L, 2 more rounds for XL & 2X. 3 more rounds for 3X

Or until desired length.

Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

Lay the shorts so the top is facing you and the first leg hole is on the right.

Rejoin yarn in the first round of the first leg hole in the sc right next to the last shell from the first leg hole.

(leave a long end for sewing)

Round 27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39: repeat round 5 around the remaining stitches, creating the second leg hole (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 shells)

Use the long end to sew the small hole in the middle of the inseam closed with the long end.

Weave in all the ends.

DRAWSTRING

ch 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 150, 155 (add or take out chs as needed, this needs to be long enough to fit around your waist with room to tie a bow)

Use your yarn needle to weave the drawstring in a out of the ch spaces from round 2, starting in the front.

Add fringe to each end of the drawstring. I added 3 pieces to each end. Trim to your liking.

And you’re done with these cute shorts! I hope you love them!
