About the Diamond Stitch

The Diamond Stitch creates a geometric texture that feels both classic and modern. It has just enough pattern to keep things interesting without being overwhelming, making it a great stitch to start our sampler blanket.

Why this stitch works so well for Part 1:

Materials
worsted weight acrylic yarn (I used Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn)
J/6.0 mm hook
yarn needle
scissors

Pattern notes & stitches to know
ch – chain
fsc – foundation single crochet
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
fptr – front post treble
fptr2tog – front post treble 2 together
rs – right side
ws – wrong side

· written in US terms

· ch 2 does not count as dc

· ch 1 does not count as sc

· This stitch requires a chain multiple of 4 + 3

· This blanket will use different hook sizes depending on the stitch. Some stitches work up tighter than others. Even with changing hook sizes, the blanket will not have completely straight edges.

· Feel free to adjust your hook size according to how you crochet.

· This blanket requires a foundation row that is a multiple of 24 + 2.

· The starting chain requirement for this particular stitch is given in the pattern notes (this may or may not match what was used for the entire blanket). This is just a note given for use of this stitch in other projects, not for this blanket.

PART 1 – THE DIAMOND STITCH

ch 2

Row 1 (rs): starting in 2nd ch from the hook, fsc 146 (any multiple of 24 + 2) (146 sc)

Or chain 147, sc in 2nd ch from the hook and across

Row 2 (ws): ch 2, turn, dc in each stitch across (146 dc)

Row 3 (rs): ch 1, turn, fptr around the 3rd stitch in row 1, *sc in next 3 stitches, fptr2tog (the first “leg” goes into the same stitch from previous fptr, skip 3 stitches, make second “leg” in next stitch)* repeat from * to * across to last 2 stitches, fptr around final fptr, sc in last stitch (146)

Row 4 (ws): ch 2, turn, dc in each stitch across (146 dc)

Row 5 (rs): ch 1, turn, sc in 2 stitches, *fptr2tog (working around fptr and fptr2tog to make diamond shape), sc in next 3 stitches* repeat from * to * across (146)

Row 6 (ws): ch 2, turn, dc in each stitch across (146 dc)

Row 7 (rs): ch 1, turn, fptr around fptr2tog, sc in next 3 stitches, *fptr2tog (to make diamond shape), sc in next 3 stitches* repeat from * to * across to last 2 stitches, fptr around final fptr, sc in last (146)

Row 8 (ws): ch 2, turn, dc in each stitch across (146 dc)

Row 9 (rs): repeat row 5

Do not fasten off.

To make this section longer, continue repeating rows 4-7 (starting with a repeat of row 6), ending with an odd row number.

Place a stitch marker in last stitch of this section.
