Ruffled Crochet Skirt

July 14, 2017

Who doesn’t love summer fashion? It’s all about skirts, bright colors and having fun with what you wear!

I made this skirt for my daughter who is 7… but I think I might have to make one for myself! The pattern can easily be adjusted for any size. Simply change the starting chain number, then the length and ba-da-bing! You have a ruffled skirt in a different size.

This pattern is available as an inexpensive, clearly formatted, PDF instant download HERE in my Etsy shop.

PATTERN

1 skein each of Lily’s Sugar ‘n Cream in Yellow (Color A), Goldrenrod(Color B), and Tangerine (Color C) (360 yards total)
5 mm hook
Yarn needle
Scissors

Intermediate

Pattern notes & stitches to know
Sl st – slip stitch
Ch – chain
Sc – single crochet
Dc – double crochet

Finished skirt measures approximately 22 inches around the waist and 24 inches long.

SKIRT

Starting in Color A

Ch 65 (starting chain can be a different length—needs to be a multiple of 4 + 1)

Row 1: sc in 2nd chain from hook and sc in each st across, join to the top of first sc with a sl st to form a loop (64 sc)

NOTE: I like to crochet my first row and then join to form a loop, otherwise I always twist the chain. Never fails. 😉 Use the beginning tail to sew the hole closed

Round 2: ch 1, *sc in 4 stitches, ch 1, skip one stitch* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first sc with a sl st (48 sc, 16 ch spaces)

Round 3: ch 1, sc in each stitch and ch space around, join to top of first sc with sl st (64 sc)

Round 4 – 8: ch 3, dc in each stitch around, join to top of first dc with a sl st (64 dc)

Change to Color B

Round 9 – 13: ch 3, dc in each stitch around, join to top of first dc with a sl st (64 dc)

Change to Color C

Round 14 – 18: ch 3, dc in each stitch around, join to top of first dc with a sl st (64 dc)

Fasten off, weave in all the ends

Next you’ll work the ruffles on top of the stripes of the skirt.

Join Color A to the beginning of row 4. Join on the top between the row 3 and 4.

Follow this pattern for each ruffle, using the matching color for each stripe.

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc + ch1) dc again in same stitch *skip one stitch, (dc, ch1, dc) in next* repeat from * to * around, join to top of first ch 2

Round 2: slip stitch into chain space, *ch 5, sc in ch 1 space* repeat from * to * stopping at the last ch 1 space, ch 2 and dc (counts as ch 5) into first ch 5 space in the round

Round 3: *ch 5, sc in ch 5 from previous round* repeat from * to * around, ch 2 and dc (counts as ch 5) into first ch 5 space in the round

Round 4: *ch 5, sc in ch 5 from previous round* repeat from * to * around, ch 2 and dc (counts as ch 5) into first ch 5 space in the round

Round 5:  Ch 3 (counts as dc) and dc 3 more into same stitch, *sc into ch 4 space, 6 dc into sc* repeat from * to * around, join to first ch 2

DRAWSTRING

(In color C) Ch 120. Fasten off.

(In color B) Cut 5 10 inch pieces of yarn, add 5 pieces to each end for fringe. Trim to your liking.

Weave the drawstring though the chain spaces made in row 2.

  1. Hi Breann, in this pattern when making the skirt part, in roound 3 the number of sc is 64 but then in round 4-8 the dc number of sc goes up to 92 but I can’t see where to increase?? I’d like to make this for my 6 year old as it’s so cute. Thank you so much and love all your patterns, thanks for sharing x
