Patriotic Hair Bandanas

Looking for an easy and festive crochet project? I busted out two of these in about one hour! I was working on a top and it felt like it was taking foreverrrrrrrrrrrr. I needed something quick and cute, so put down what I was working on and I whipped up a couple of these Patriotic Hair Bandanas! Instant gratification.

I used the ever so versatile granny stitch. Is there anything you can’t make with a granny stitch?

I think these girls are ready for 4th of July festivities! I used acrylic worsted weight yarn, but I think a light cotton yarn would be really nice, especially for summer. I’m a firm believer in using what you have… so I used what I had! But I think next time I go out to buy red, white and blue yarn, I’ll look for some cotton. Once I run out of my acrylic first, of course 🙂

I’m thinking they don’t mind being in front of the camera 😛

PATTERN

Materials
Worsted weight (4) yarn in red, white and blue (I used acrylic, but like I said, cotton would be nice, too)
5.0 mm hook
Yarn needle
Scissors

Level: easy/beginner

Pattern Notes & Stitches to Know
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet

HAIR BANDANAS

Ch 4, sl st into first ch to form a ring

Row 1: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1) 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 1, dc all into the ring (8 dc)

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), turn, 3 dc into first ch 1 space, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into ch 3 space, 3 dc into ch 1 space, ch 1, dc into top of ch 3 from previous row (14 dc)

Row 3: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), turn, 3 dc into first ch 1 space, 3 dc in between 3 dc’s from previous row, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in ch 3 space,  3 dc in between 3 dc’s from previous row, 3 dc into ch 1 space, ch 1, dc into top of ch 3 from previous row (20 dc)

Rows 4 – 9: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), turn, 3 dc in first ch 1 space, 3 dc in between the 3 dc’s from previous row, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in corner ch 3 space, 3 dc in between the 3 dc’s from previous row, 3 dc in ch 1 space, ch 1, dc into top of ch 3 from previous row.

Each row increases by 6 stitches. Row 9 ends with 56 dc

Fasten off, weave in the ends.

Join yarn to the corner and sc across the top of the bandana.

Once you reach the end, ch 25. Fasten off, weave in the ends.

Attach yarn to opposite corner, ch 25. Fasten off, weave in the ends.
